AMD Radeon HD 7970M Overclocking – A Mobile GPU with Desktop GTX 580 Performance!
A few of the guys at NotebookReview have gotten their hands on a few Dell QS Radeon HD 7970M samples prior to the general release (which is in approximately one week)…the stock and OC numbers are very, very impressive. This is a 100W card, so it’s not for the feint of battery.

A lot of people are under the false impression that to go tri-SLI or quad-SLI you have to get wet. This couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve experienced great reliability and thermal performance with triple and quadruple “sandwich” configurations of EVGA GTX 680 reference cards (this is key with tri-SLI or quad-SLI as aftermarket air coolers typically dump air into the case or worse, when sandwiched, onto the other cards – it sucks). Temps are 61C at the highest after a couple hours of BF3 multiplayer at 5760×1080/120hz and that’s with an OC (60% minimum fan speed, 100% max after 60C to avoid the 70C downclock temp).
So – if anyone is telling you to only to tri-SLI or quad-SLI with water cooling – don’t worry. Just pick out the right case and other components and you’ll be just fine.

Just got back from a business trip – I haven’t had a lot of time to OC this beast, but I had a pretty solid run today:
