NVIDIA GTX TITAN, X79, and PCIe 3.0 – Not Fixed
Yesterday I finally had some time to perform my EVGA NVIDIA GTX TITAN upgrade: tri-SLI on an ASUS P9X79 Pro (BIOS 3408). Using the latest NVIDIA beta drivers (314.14) and the latest GPU-Z (0.6.8) on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 (with all of the latest patches as of 03/08/12) I realized quickly that the TITAN runs at PCIe 2.0 by default on X79 (despite my P9X79 mobo BIOS being set to “GEN3”)! Just like Kepler GK104 before it:
After downloading NVIDIA’s force-enable-gen3 (also – mirrored here: force-enable-gen3.zip [71.3 KB]), running it, and rebooting – PCIe 3.0 capability is back…so FYI for those of you upgrading to TITAN…the X79 and NVIDIA issue remains!
